Hollywood

Tucked between the famous cities of Fort Lauderdale and Miami, you’ll find the beach community known as Hollywood. With its paved boardwalk spanning almost the entire length of the beach’s seven-mile stretch, residents and tourists can enjoy a relaxing day taking in the pristine views of the ocean. Scattered along the boardwalk is a collection of shops that sell souvenirs, outdoor restaurants and cafes, and bars. Featuring playgrounds for children, the Hollywood Beach Theatre, as well as live music and countless cultural and social events, there is always something going on at the beach.

Hollywood was originally founded in 1920 by Joseph Young. Young’s vision was to build a “Dream City” along the Atlantic coast of Florida. His dream was to build a community filled with schools and churches, as well as provide parks and golf courses for people to enjoy in the warm, tropical climate. Originally dubbed by Young as “Hollywood by the Sea”, he set out to plan a city with wide streets, hotels, and neighborhoods. The draw of the ocean and sunny skies attracted many residents from the northern states to visit and, in some cases, reside in Hollywood during the winter months. Through Young’s vision, wide streets, parks, and lakes were constructed. Young named many of the streets in Hollywood after United States’ Presidents. In 1926, the city was devastated by the 1926 Hurricane, coming in second to Miami in total financial losses. While the damage was ultimately repaired, the city was hit hard financially during the Great Depression, as well as subsequent hurricanes. Ultimately, the city rebounded and, by 1960, over 12,000 homes and 2,400 hotels had been built.

Today, Hollywood is a community made up of sleepy, residential neighborhoods, small businesses, large corporations, and shopping centers. Sections of the city have been renovated to offer quaint outdoor cafes and coffee shops, as well as apparel and specialty stores. There are over 60 parks located within the city.

Currently, there are 148,114 residents living in Hollywood. The population is mixed as 45.5% are white, 33% are Hispanic, and 16.2% are African American. Hollywood has a large retirement and second-home community. The median household income is $48,579 and the median property values is $197,100. Of the entire population in Hollywood, approximately 16.2% of the resident live below the poverty level, with females between the ages of 45 and 64 representing the largest percentage. Average work commute times for Hollywood residents is 27.9 minutes.

What do Personal Injury Cases Cover?

The laws that govern personal injury cases allow the injured person to recover losses as a means to be made whole. The rules for personal injury may apply in the following situations;

Accidents – A personal injury claim may exist when an accident occurs as the result of negligence or a reckless act that causes injury to another person. Slips and falls and car accidents are often associated with personal injury claims.

Intentional Action – Conduct that was intentional that leads to the injury of someone else may be considered a personal injury claim. Intentional conduct that causes injury can result in situations of assault and battery.

Defamation – Statements made to defame the reputation of someone else may result in a personal injury claim.

In addition to the above, products that are defective may result in a personal injury case.
